The Plainview Family History Center provides access for the public to the genealogical materials, films, books, fiche, and computer data, which has been assembled and provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Service, Resources, or Benefits Provided to Members
The Plainview Family History Center provides significant materials onsite, resource guides, books, manuals to read and for sale, and access to computers, microfilm readers and printers.
Researchers can bring their own laptops, tablets, smart phones and access MOST locked records on FamilySearch.org. Some records are only available to LDS members or to certain Family History Centers. When viewing a source, check to be use it states it can be viewed at any Family History Center. By logging on to the Family History Center WiFi, researchers can access records accessible to “Family History Centers.”
There are five computers available to the public. There is a time limit of 30 minutes for computer usage if someone is waiting. Researchers should bring flash drives or portable hard drives to download images. Printing is 25 cents an image.
In addition, researchers using the computers at the Family History Center have access to Premium databases. These databases cannot be accessed from personal devices. The list of the databases can be seen at this link:
The Family History Center is open to the public. Library hours are subject to change and holiday closings.
Open: Tuesday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., 7 – 9:30 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Closed: Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and third Saturday of the month.
