JEWISH GENEALOGY SOCIETY OF LONG ISLAND

Aims or Purpose of Group:

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island works to encourage genealogical research, to collect, preserve, and disseminate knowledge and information pertaining to Jewish genealogy and research techniques, to encourage members and the public to pursue and preserve genealogical data, and to educate the public in the correct performance of genealogical research.

*Quarterly periodical, LIneage as well as back issues of LIneage from 1988-2018

*JGSLI Online, a monthly e-newsletter, as well as back issues from 2012-2019

*Access to featured lectures

*Research advice and support

*Extensive collection of genealogy books housed at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library 

*Advanced notice of the Annual Beginner’s Workshop (early November) 

*Notices of national and international conferences on Jewish genealogy, along with feedback from those who attended

Note: Contrary to widespread belief, extensive Jewish records exist in Europe, USA, Israel and elsewhere.  JGSLI can help you look in the right places.

Normal Meeting Schedule: (Please confirm before attending since schedules do change.)

Meetings are open to the public. There is no charge for guests or non-members.

Meetings are normally held:

Fourth Sunday of the month at 2 p.m., except July and August.

Mid-Island Y-JCC, 45 Manetto Hill Rd, Plainview (two blocks north of Old Country Road).

Membership Information:

Membership year begins January 1. Memberships can be paid by mail or through the JGSLI website.

Annual dues: $25 individual, $30 family (two members of the same household), $15 outside Nassau, Suffolk and Queens counties.

The organization was founded in 1985. It is a member of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies.
