Due to the current health crisis, we are making every attempt to update our organizational calendar as soon as information is received from our groups. Please check our calendar and blog for the latest information on club meetings and activities.
Welcome to the Genealogy Federation of Long Island website. The Federation is comprised of 10 local genealogy organizations.
Our organizations assist researchers in various topics including general family history research and tracing specific ethnic or geographic origins. The Federation itself does not offer an individual membership, but we encourage researchers to join at least one of our member organizations.
The Federation presents genealogy programs at local public libraries and publishes a monthly calendar listing the meetings of its member organizations. This calendar is distributed to the public libraries in Nassau and Suffolk counties, as well as published on this website.
In addition, the Federation has coordinated the indexing of a variety of records of Nassau and Suffolk counties, New York City, and the National Archives New York City branch.

One important thing to be aware of is that, if you are searching by name, you need to know the exact spelling of the name on the certificate. For anyone doing genealogy for longer than a week, you know that misspellings and mistranscriptions abound in records like these.
Using the database at the German Genealogy Group site – https://www.germangenealogygroup.com/ – you can search via exact names, sounds like, and wildcards. You should be able to find most people that way, and then be able to search using the certificate number.
